Come to Beara for a John Eagle workshop
Photography Workshop
Would you like to explore the Beara Peninsula with me and learn how to use your camera to take great pictures? I know Beara really well, I live and breathe the locality. I go back to the early 60s when farmers took their milk in churns to the cremery stands by horse and cart. I can take you off the beaten track, away from the hustle and bustle of life, where you can almost see time stand still

Controlling the depth of focus
Both of the above pictures were taken by the same camera and lens from the same angle. The difference is solely down to how I arranged the settings on the camera. The first thing you do when you come on my workshop is take the camera dial off the P setting so you learn how to set it all up manually and achieve results like the above
Canon EOS 5D + EF 85 1.8
The pictures above were taken by controlling the aperature, the two below were taken using the shutter speeds
Note how the water is smooth like wet wool on the left, whereas on the right the water is frozen
Canon EOS 5D mk2 + EF 28 1.8 |
Would you like to photograph from my perspective? Note how you get detail in and around the farms.
Maybe you have recently purchased a camera and would like to know how to use it.
Come out into the wilds of the Beara Peninsula in South West Ireland and see what I see. Wander the storm battered cliffs, pouring over remains of boats, or venture into the glens where the waterfalls cascade and only the sheep roam
Heading off into the valleys of Beara, far from the crowds so we can concentrate on absorbing the scenery and take pictures
Dark thundery sky, sunlight pouring through from behind me, fantastic weather for taking pictures. If the hill on the left had been in total sunshine the picture wouldn't had nearly so much impact as it would clash too much with the grass. See the one below, bringing out the rocks high up above those houses and that moody sky. How can you not be inspired by such scenery?

A simple way to make a great picture. A star in Breens Lobster Bar, Castletownbere. I used my Canon EOS 5D mk2 with 24-105 IS L zoom lens. I zoomed the lens whilst taking the shot |
The Photography Workshop runs from 9am to 3pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week and costs €59 per person. Other days available, please ask to see if I can change things around. It will take place in Castletownbere or Eyeries in the morning, Glenbeg or Glanmore after lunch. If you wish to come with me to either Bere Island or Dursey Island that is where we will stay for the duration of the day
Not included in the price: Refreshments, rental of minibus, cable car or ferry to Bere Island costs. If you wish to use your own car you are most welcome. I can take 3 in mine for no extra charge. Minibus with driver is available
Note: If you wish to go to Dursey Island the cable car starts at 9.30am and carries maximum of 6. It takes 10 to 20 minutes for each crossing. There are no refreshments on the island, or means of transport, please take this into consideration. It is however a fabulous place for taking pictures
