In September 2008 I went to Lanzarote, my first holiday outside Britain and Ireland since my trip to Hawaii in 1984. I suppose I feel drawn to places with volcanoes. Cameras used Canon EOS 3, & Canon A 85
As might become apparent from these pictures of mine I tended to seek out the less crowded parts of Lanzarote. On this page are some shots I took as I went for a walk away from the hotspots
The shoreline has several of these old windmills
This was one of the first I saw and didn't realise what it was until I saw the one above
More markings to the west of Costa Teguise
My favourite beach, it was the closest to the Punta Jabillo apartment I stayed in. I swam here dawn and dusk each day before and after the hoardes. I loved the way fish came swimming into the shallow water around my ankles
A stingray I managed to photograph off the south east coast
Last picture I took, from my apartment balcony at 5am just prior to leaving to catch the bus for the airport. I swam in it a couple of times
Sobering thought: A 1 litre bottle of Smirnoff vodka in Costa Teguise costs €9.50, in the Duty Free at Lanzarote airport is €11.80 and the same bottle here in Ireland at Supervalu is €29.99
